The body of a girl student was found hanging from the ceiling inside a room of a ladies’ mess at Jagannathpur in Bhadrak on Tuesday.

The girl has been identified as a Plus 2 student of Bhadrak Women’s College.

As per sources, she was staying in the ladies’ mess on rent for the last one month.

The cause of the death is yet to be ascertained.

Upon being informed, Bhadrak police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. An investigation into the death case has been launched.

However, the father of the deceased alleged that their daughter was forced to take the extreme step as she was harassed.

“My daughter was staying in the mess for last one month. She had visited us last Saturday. She was forced to kill herself because of mental harassment,” he said.

Meanwhile, the owner of the mess Kanchanabala Mohanty feigned ignorance about the cause of the death.

“We had no knowledge about the cause of her death. We were on the ground floor when other girls told us about the incident and subsequently we informed the police,” said Mohanty.
