In a bid to prevent collection of exorbitant fees from vehicle owners at parking lots in the city, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to install signboards at all the parking places.

In an important meeting, BMC officials on Monday decided that the signboards will carry important information like parking fees, the area of parking, numbers to lodge complaint and the bidder’s name.

The civic body has identified 71 places in the Capital city and given permission to those as parking places. Fifteen places among those have been identified as institutional parking places. Various offices and organisations have paid BMC to use those places for parking purposes. The rest 56 places have been auctioned for on-street and off-street parking.

As per BMC guidelines, parking will only be allowed within the stipulated area and the vehicle owners will be charged as per the fees decided by the civic body. Any organisation charging exorbitant parking fees will be penalised and their license will be cancelled.

The civic body has also decided to put the mobile numbers of Zonal Deputy Commissioner and ACP traffic on the signboard. Information about BMC website and Twitter handle will also be on display on the signboard to enable residents to lodge complaints.

Besides, zonal squads will be formed to keep illegal parking across the city under check. Regular training will be imparted to the transgenders and other employees to collect online parking fees.
