Amlan Nanda, a third year computer science engineering student of Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology (SUIIT) on Wednesday became the first recipient of Arindam Das Memorial Scholarship.

Amlan's father, Pratap Nanda was handed over a cheque covering his course fee at OTV's head office in Bhubaneswar for his annual course fee and hostel fee.

Thanking OTV, Amlan’s father said, “After I lost my job during Covid, it became really difficult for me to support my son’s education. I am really grateful to OTV and its talent hunt programme to recognize my son and provide him the scholarship. He is a brilliant student and needed it the most.”

Amlan said, “My father worked at a private company but he lost his job during COVID. It shook our financial situation and I was unable to pay the college dues. I am happy to receive the scholarship. It will cover my course fee and hostel fee.”

Arindam Das was a brave journalist and I am proud to have received the scholarship this year,” he added.

The scholarship was instituted by OTV in memory of its late journalist Arindam Das who lost his life while covering the rescue operation of an elephant stuck in Mahanadi river at Mundali barrage last year. Under this scholarship, one meritorious, economically backward student will receive their entire course fee each year. It was announced last year by OTV MD Jagi Mangat Panda in memory of Arindam Das.
