A joint team of the Excise Department and Commissionerate Police on Tuesday night conducted raids at several bars in different places in Bhubaneswar and sealed three of them for allegedly engaging dancers without permission and violating Covid-19 guidelines. The bars were operating beyond the prescribed closing time of 9.30 pm under the existing night curfew restrictions imposed by the Odisha government.

The team sealed three bars including Nasha Lounge, Live It Up Restaurant and Ekamra Bar located on Cuttack Road for allegedly engaging dancers, all girls, to entertain their customers without having prior permission while the other two bars were served show cause notice.

“After getting a tipoff about the dance programmes in some bars, a team of Cuttack Flying Squad, excise officials at Bhubaneswar and Commissionerate Police conducted simultaneous raids and sealed three bars,” informed Superintendent of Cuttack flying squad, Debasish Patel.

The State government has not granted permission to any dance bar to operate in the city this year in view of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Last week, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had sealed two bars at different places while the Commissionerate Police sealed a bar in Patrapada area for allegedly operating beyond the prescribed closing time.
