Bhubaneswar: The recent announcement of celebrity couple Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao on their mutual divorce has not gone down well with Odisha Congress leader Suresh Chandra alias Sura Routray among many culturally deep-rooted intellectuals in the country.

Coming down heavily on the mega star Aamir Khan for changing wives at regular intervals, the Congress MLA suggested him to shift over to Pakistan or Arab countries if the latter wanted to practice polygamy.

“Is Aamir Khan thinking India is Pakistan or some Arab Country where he would have multiple wives? This does not happen in India. If you (Aamir) wants to live a life like that you should go to Pakistan or Arab.. What a shameless man he is!" Routray said.

The Congress leader further said that Khan’s act could inspire emulation by the youth mass. “We have a great tradition in the country where we marry one and live together for the whole life. We respect each other. We dont change wives every fortnight like you ( Aamir). It is highly condemnable,” Routray said.

“I appeal to the youth mass not to follow the character of Aamir Khan,” he pointed out.

The veteran leader advised the young generation to live a life with their spouse till the end, " Be it love or arranged marriage,’ the Congress leader said.

Aamir Khan had married a Hindu woman and  a son and a daughter were born from the union. After 16 years, both were separated.  Later, he married again to a producer-director woman and they have a son also. Now, he divorced her, Sura said as quoting media reports.

Notably, the celebrity couple -Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, had on Saturday announced separation after 15 years of marriage.

Both got hitched on December 28, 2005. Aamir was previously married to Reena Dutta, whom de divorced in 2002. They have together produced acclaimed and commercially successful films like Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, Peepli Live, Dhobi Ghat, Delhi Belly, Talaash, Dangal, among others.
