Meanwhile, there are some people who stress that makeup should never hide self, rather, it should be used to enhance natural beauty.
However, a 20-year-old girl has something else to say. Melisa Raouf, hailing from London says, "There's no need to apply makeup, our flaws make us who we are and that's what makes every individual unique."
Melisa, with such inspiring thoughts, has scripted history by becoming the first ever contestant in Miss England pageant. She is one of the finalists who walked the ramp sans makeup in the semifinals. She scripted history as she is the first-ever contestant in the 94-year history of the beauty pageant competition who walked the ramp without makeup to promote natural beauty.
Melisa, a political student, aims to encourage other young girls and women to exhibit their natural beauty.
At every beauty pageant competition and any other event related to the glam industry, or even day-to-day life, women and girls sweat hard to bloom their beauty and stand out from others. Makeup is not just limited to parties, or events, it has become a necessity in society to impress others.
However, breaking the stereotypes, Melisa impressed the judges in the semi-finals last week and was selected as a finalist. To everyone's surprise, she will dare to fight for the glorious Miss England crown by again ditching cosmetics.
Netizens have showered praises for the daring step taken by the 20-year-old girl. Even, Melisa has become the talk of the town for such a move.
Notably, Melisa won the 'Bare Face' round which was initiated in 2019.
As said by the show organiser Angie Beasley, “It encourages women to show us who they really are without the need to hide behind makeup and filters on social media.”
Showering praises for Melisa, Beasley added, “This is the first time I’ve seen a contestant completely makeup-free competing in a semi-final and she said she felt empowered against all the other contestants."
“It means a lot to me as I feel many girls of different ages wear makeup because they feel pressured to do so,” WioNews quoted Beasley as saying.
Melisa will compete for the Miss England crown with 40 other women on October 17, 2022.
