Bhubaneswar: The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to top engineering colleges across the country began in Odisha on Tuesday amid COVID-19 restrictions.

According to sources, as many as 9.58 lakh students including 38,000 candidates from Odisha are appearing the national level examination held at 26 examination centres in seven cities of the State.

The cities where the entrance examination is being conducted are Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Balasore and  Dhenkanal.

The examination is being conducted in two sittings 9 am to 12 noon and 3 pm to 6 pm. In view of the pandemic, candidates are allowed to enter the examination centres after thermal scanning. Similarly, use of mask and sanitiser has been made compulsory during the examination.

Meanwhile, with the highest 16,000 of the 38,000 candidates appearing the test in Khordha alone, the district administration along with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) have come up with special arrangements for the smooth conduct of the entrance examination.

BMC has made accommodation arrangements for the candidates and their parents at eight places in the city. The civic body has also deployed mobile, police and sanitising teams at the examination centres.
