UK trial tests HIV drugs on brain tumours

The University of Plymouth is conducting a clinical trial to test HIV medications, Ritonavir and Lopinavir, on patients with multiple brain tumours caused by Neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2). This groundbreaking study aims to explore new treatments for NF2-associated tumours.

Drugs developed to combat HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) are being trialled for the first time in patients with multiple brain tumours, UK-based University of Plymouth said on Friday. 

University scientists at the Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence are conducting a clinical trial to see whether using anti-retroviral medications, Ritonavir and Lopinavir, could help people with Neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2).
