Despite making the Regional Diagnostic Centre (RDC) at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur operational round the clock, the patients are still suffering to get their tests done.
Visit the RDC at MKCG Medical College and Hospital on any day, the serpentine queue in front of it will speak volumes about the plight of the patients.
Earlier, the tests were done at the RDC from 9 am to 5 pm. Then patients were suffering a lot. Keeping their problems in view, the centre was made operational 24X 7 and the single window system was also introduced.
But, the patients are still experiencing the same problems. According to them, separate counters for outdoor and indoor patients would work.
“My sister is a delivery patient and is undergoing treatment here. I have been standing in the queue for five hours to get her blood samples tested,” said Rajendra Sahu, a relative.
Echoing the same, another relative of a patient said, “In addition to the indoor patients, around 2000 outpatients are visiting the centre.
People are suffering due to the absence of adequate staff and separate queues for indoor and outdoor patients.”

The patients and their relatives also alleged that the RDC doesn’t have facilities for urine tests. They said mere opening the centre 24X7 won’t solve their problems. Appointment of sufficient number of staff will help redress their sufferings, they added.
When contacted, MKCG Medical College and Hospital’s superintendent, Prof Suchitra Das said there would be separate facilities for indoor and outdoor patients soon.
“We are soon going to introduce a separate system for the attendants of the indoor patients,” said Das.
