  • Many common weight loss tips that are supposed to help you lose weight in reality do more harm than good.
  • From skipping meals to using laxatives, such weight loss tips really do not help in the long run.

It is very easy to find weight loss tips and methods on the web as social media platforms and the internet is full of messages and posts from health experts and so-called influencers. But not all tips and recommendations are backed by research and study and hence many times most of these pieces of advice really do not work.

Here are a few such diet tips that will never help you in losing weight and staying fit:

Skipping meals

It is a common notion that you can cut down your calorie intake by skipping meals. That is why many people either eat late or skip breakfast or dinner. While it can work for those who are older and have slow metabolism, in general, skipping meals messes up with the metabolism process and can make you very hungry later so you end up eating more than needed.

Calories or quality of food?

Nutrient-rich foods offer better health and fitness. But many times people compromise on the quality of the food so that they eat fewer calories in a day. What you must understand is that the overall composition of your diet makes a big impact on your appetite, hormones, and hunger. Therefore, even though it is important to watch your calories, you also must keep an eye on the quality of the food that you are consuming.

Ghee-free diet

Many current diets advise skipping dairy, especially ghee from the diet for losing weight. However, instead of skipping ghee completely, you must include a very small portion of it in your diet as it contains medium-chain triglycerides and butyric acid that mobilises and eliminates stubborn fat from the body.

Cheat days after dieting for 6 days

A diet chart has to be prepared especially for those who cannot control their emotional binging or are more into disordered eating. So when such people get a cheat day, they immediately lose control and thus the entire concept of dieting for the other 6 days in a week loses its purpose.

Laxatives for weight loss

The scale may show that you have lost a few pounds but with laxatives, you only tend to lose more water and hence the weight loss is temporary. With regular use of laxatives, you end up losing nutrients and also are at risk of dehydration.
