The eighth International Yoga Day is being celebrated across Odisha on Tuesday with people from all walks of life participating in yoga programmes organised at several places in the State.

The Centre has selected 75 historical sites including three from Odisha- Srimandir at Puri, Sun temple at Konark and Tampara lake in Ganjam for the celebration of International Yoga Day.

While Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw led International Day of Yoga celebration from Konark Temple heritage site, Union Minister Mahendra Pandey, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, Puri MLA Jayanta Sarangi and party’s State general secretary Lekhashree Samantsinghar took part in the yoga session held in Puri.

Similarly, Union Minister Bishweswar Tudu took part in International Day of Yoga celebration at Khiching in Mayurbhanj district. On the other hand, BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda participated in International Yoga Day celebration in Delhi.

“We should thank our Prime Minister Narendra Modi for popularising yoga worldwide. With PM Modi’s efforts June 21 was accepted as the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations and is being celebrated across the globe,” said Panda while appealing people to perform yoga daily for a better health and mental peace.

Meanwhile, renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a seven-foot sand sculpture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi doing yoga at a beach in Puri to mark the day.

Using around six tonnes of sand, Pattnaik created the sculpture on the theme of 'Surya Namaskar'. 

 

 

Students of his sand art school joined hands with him to complete another sand art in an area of 3,500 sq ft showing 'Surya Namaskar'.
