If you go to Puri and due to some reasons, you can’t go into Srimandir to have a darshan of Lord Jagannath, don’t get disheartened. For devotees like you, there is a temple in the holy town itself where you can worship Lord Jagannath and, as it is believed, it will give you the same happiness and satisfaction as you would have experienced inside Srimandir.

There is a temple named Mundiamara Jagannath temple, near Mausi  Maa temple.

According to the servitors, the temple is specifically for those who aren’t able to go into Srimandir due to one or the other reasons. After darshan of Lord Jagannath in this temple, devotees feel immense satisfaction and mental peace, they claim.

Going to describe the nomenclature of the temple, the temple’s servitor said, “Years ago, there used to be a river at Badasankha. During Rath Yatra time, the area would remain waterlogged, causing problems for chariots to reach Mausi Maa temple and for the devotees of Mausi Maa temple side to go to the other side to have a darshan of the deities.”

“These devotees would then come to this Mundiamara Jagannath temple, have a glimpse of their beloved lord and offer prayers,” he adds.

“It is believed that after darshan of the deity at the temple, devotees feel the same satisfaction and mental peace as they would have experienced after darshan of the Trinity in Srimandir,” he claims.

During the pandemic times when Srimandir remained out of bounds for devotees, it was also noticed that devotees would turn up at this Mundiamara temple to have the blessings of Lord Jagannath.

“Today, we feel immense satisfaction after darshan of Lod Jagannath at Mundiamara temple. We would keep visiting the temple even during Covid times when the temple doors were closed for us,” says a devotee.

At Mundiamara Jagannath temple, a small one without any gate or boundary wall, besides Lord Jagannath, Shalagram and Mahaveer are being worshipped.
