Raksha Bandhan is a festival that celebrates sister and brother bonding. But with more families opting for only a single child, there is not much scope for celebrating such festivals anymore.
That is why traditionally, parents used to suggest that you must at least have two children. But with India leading the population table and both the partners engaged in full-time careers, it is difficult to take care of two children and raise them properly.

With nuclear families becoming the new norm, usually, there are no grandparents or relatives to fall back upon during times when there are both parenting and career demands pressing from both sides.
And that is why the single-child concept has gained roots and become acceptable in every family. But is it affecting the emotional growth of the new generation in a negative way or also have some pros?
Of course, there are certain positive aspects to being a single child.
You are the apple of the eyes of your parents with no competition. You get the best of the education, environment, care, and attention that they can offer and hence develop good confidence from a young age.

Chances are also there that you may become independent very quickly. But you lack companions of your age. Friends in the park and the school do not make up for the lack of siblings, the life you enjoy together at home from sharing clothes, and rooms to fighting and making up.
Siblings are for Life
When you grow up in a household with siblings, you have a good idea about sharing, caring, and standing for each other. Just as you are there for your sibling when in need, you always know that your sibling will always be there at your back.
Families who have more children inculcate a deep bond with each other that is essential in living a mentally stable and happy life.
Siblings are expected to stay with you through thick and thin. Not that it always materialises as thought and many times there are fights and animosities between siblings.
But overall, having a big family with cousins, siblings, and relatives gives you a cocoon and shelter of warmth that is your own and gives you the feeling of happiness, protection, and security.
Man being a social animal, it is important for him to be surrounded by people and siblings are the best people who he would like to be in the company of.
