Maha Shivratri holds deep spiritual importance. It is believed that on this night:
Shiva and Parvati’s Divine Union: After years of penance, Goddess Parvati married Lord Shiva, symbolizing the harmony of masculine and feminine energies.
Tandav – The Cosmic Dance: Shiva performed his cosmic dance, representing creation, preservation, and destruction.
Neelkanth – The Poison Incident: Lord Shiva consumed Halahal, the deadly poison from the Samudra Manthan, to protect the universe, turning his throat blue and earning him the name Neelkanth.
Fasting: Many observe a nirjala vrat (fast without water) or consume only fruits and milk.
Shivling Abhishek: Offerings like milk, honey, curd, ghee, and water are poured over the Shiva Lingam to seek blessings.
Chanting & Meditation: Devotees chant Om Namah Shivaya and recite sacred hymns like Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra and Shiv Tandav Stotram.
Night Vigil: Staying awake all night in devotion, meditation, and bhajan-kirtan is considered highly auspicious.
Maha Shivratri is more than just a festival; it is a night of divine connection. It is believed that worshipping Lord Shiva on this day removes negativity, grants inner peace, and leads one towards moksha (liberation).
