With resentment brewing in many quarters over the Covid-19 restrictions for the upcoming festive season including Durga puja in Odisha, the State government has announced to take a decision on the height of idols within two days.

The announcement from the State goverment came after a meeting between Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra, SRC Pradeep Jena and Mahanagar Puja Committee members at Loka Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the State administration has also clarified that decision on conduct of rituals in a closed area will be taken in due time depending upon the Covid-19 situation.

“Odisha govt will take a decision regarding height of idols in two days. There is still a month left for Puja. Appropriate steps will be taken by the government as per the prevailing situation,” said Prabhat Tripathy, Secretary of Mahanagar Puja Committee.

It is worth mentioning that members of the Cuttack Juba Sangathan (youth organisation) had held a demonstration in the Millennium City on Tuesday, alleging that the administration allowed opening malls and cinema halls with full capacity putting restrictions on Durga puja festivals.

Several puja committees of Bhubaneswar had also submitted a memorandum to the Police Commissioner and requested him to reconsider such directives which tend to dampen the festive mood.
