The villagers detained three excise personnel by locking them up in a room for several hours. The officials were released after police intervened, they said.
The excise team faced anger of the villagers in the displaced colony of Baghalati where they were conducting a raid to unearth an illegal stock of liquor.
The injured persons were treated at the nearby hospital and their condition was stated to be stable, they said.
"Before we started raiding the place, the villagers pelted stones and attacked us. They detained three persons in a house for several hours," an excise officer, who was in the team said.
On other hand, a villager alleged that the excise personnel forcibly entered into the house of a person and assaulted his daughter.
The sleuths also allegedly beat up the villagers as they opposed their behaviour, the villagers alleged.
"When I opposed their behaviour towards my family members, including my daughters, they tried to arrest me," Ganapati Sabar, a villager, said.
Jarada Inspector in-charge N R Mohanty said that excise officials have been rescued and the situation was under control.
