  • The film will show Tollywood beauty as the daughter of Maharishi Vishwamitra and Maneka.

Shaakuntalam featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the titular role is based on the mythological love story of Shakuntala and Dushyanta. It is a very famous love story and it is believed that their son Bharata who ruled all of this tropical part of the earth is the reason why our country is called by this name. Many movies have been made based on this epic love story and people have loved it for ages.

The story in general revolves around Shaakuntala who is the love child of Brahmarishi Vishwamitra and Apsara Menaka. However, after Vishwamitra leaves for his 'tapa' and Menaka returns to heaven, it is Sage Kanwa who takes care of Shakuntala and hence is her foster father.

Here, in the forest, she meets King Dushyanta of Hastinapur and they fell in love. But after Dushyanta returns to Hastinapur, he forgets about Shakuntala and when she goes to his kingdom with their child, he refuses to recognise and accept her.

Later on, with the twist of destiny, Dushyanta remembers Shakuntala and accepts his child making him the heir to his kingdom. It was Bharata who established the Kuru clan which is so famous because of the Mahabharata.

The first poster of Shaakuntalam displayed Samantha in an all-white traditional outfit similar to those worn by women in ancient India. Recently, the actress shared on social media that she watched the complete movie and is extremely elated with the way it has turned out.

Thanking the director Gunasekhar in her appreciative tweet, the Yashodha actress penned that Shaakuntalam is one of the greatest epics that has been brought to life so endearingly.

Earlier, a normal version of the movie was expected to hit the theaters. However, after the immense response to Shaakuntalam's first poster, the team decided to release it in the 3D version which is going to be a big treat to Samantha's fans.
