Nitesh Kumar Sahoo

Thalaivar Rajinikanth is among the most celebrated actors of Indian cine industry with a massive fanbase across the world. Cine lovers celebrate his movie release as a festival and worship him as a demi-God. There could be rarely any actor or Indian movie lover who won’t recognise Rajinikanth. But, did you know, Superstar Govinda once failed to recognise him on the sets of Hum?

Govinda shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth in 1991’s action crime movie Hum. While Chi Chi teamed up with Big B for the first time (second time in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan), with Rajinikanth it was his second time (first time in Gair Kanooni). However, even though Govinda worked with Rajinikanth earlier, he failed to recognise Thalaivar on the sets of Hum.

Earlier, during an interview with Siddharth Kanan, Govinda himself revealed the same. The Raja Babu actor reminisced about the old days of shooting for Hum. Govinda revealed that it was a learning experience for him working with both Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth. Further, Govinda went on to add that the two actors are quite humble.

Narrating his day one of shooting for Hum, Govinda said, Rajinikanth walked to him and they exchanged greetings. However, Govinda couldn’t recognise him as he had a thick beard at that time. When Rajini addressed him by his pet name ‘Chi Chi’, Govinda asked him who he is and why is he addressing him as ‘Chi Chi’.

However, Govinda instantly realised that he was Rajinikanth and said, “Sir, Rajini Sir, Pranam.”

Well, it certainly must have been an awkward moment for Govinda, but, instant realisation saved him from getting more humiliated.

Hum, also starring Kimi Katkar, Deepa Sahi, Shilpa Shirodkar, Danny Denzongpa, Anupam Kher, and Kader Khan in pivotal roles went on to become a blockbuster of the year and gets counted as one of the most successful movies of Amitabh Bachchan with the two other superstars.
