Yash Raj Films (YRF)’s highly anticipated action thriller ‘War 2’ starring Bollywood’s Greek God Hrithik Roshan and Telugu heartthrob Jr. NTR is all set to hit the big screens in August. The teaser of the much-awaited film was released recently and is breaking all records.

The film is slated to hit theatres on August 14, on the eve of India’s Independence Day. However, some netizens raised questions over the date of release.

Social Media Reaction:

Many netizens expressed their discontent, arguing that a patriotic film with nationalistic undertones should have aligned its release with India's Independence Day on August 15.

A user shared, “They are releasing War 2 on 14th August and calling it Independence Day release!  Whose independence are you celebrating - Bharat’s or your handlers across the border?”

Likewise, another user shared, “They are releasing War 2 on 14th August and calling it Independence Day release!”

Strategic Holiday Release

However, a section of fans came out in support and clarified that the film’s release date was strategic and a part of a long-standing tradition in Bollywood. Just like a film release on January 25 is marked as ‘Republic Day’ release, or one hitting theatres on December 24 is positioned as a ‘Christmas Release’, War 2 is being released on August 14 to maximize its reach during a high-football holiday period.

Some also stated that with its August 14 release, War 2 will get an extended weekend along with August 15 as a holiday that will build momentum for the much-awaited film. They further claimed that it's a strategic move by the makers and has no political connection whatsoever.

Focus on Hrithik-NTR:

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is the much-awaited sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War, which starred Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff. The new installment brings together Hrithik Roshan and Telugu superstar Jr. NTR for the first time, raising expectations for high-octane action and pan-India appeal.

Actress Kiara Advani also joins the cast in a significant role, taking over the mantle from Vaani Kapoor, who played a key role in the original film. As a part of the YRF Spy Universe, the film is another big entertainer like Pathaan with high-octane action and star power like never before.

With immense buzz surrounding the film, it is likely to become another smashing Rs 1000 crore blockbuster, and who knows, it may cross the 1500 crore mark.
