Bollywood star Rhea Chakraborty has recently been offered an apology by a news anchor concerning the media attention that surrounded her following the tragic demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020.
During that tumultuous period, Rhea was thrust into the eye of a media storm and endured continuous online harassment.
Recently, at the India Today Conclave Mumbai 2023, a journalist took the opportunity to extend a formal apology to Rhea Chakraborty.
The journalist acknowledged that the media's conduct during that period was regrettable, saying, "We owe you an apology because a significant portion of our reporting was disgraceful. I am sorry, and I admit that our network did not always support you during that tumultuous period, given that everything was under scrutiny and in the midst of trials."
The video of this apology was widely shared on social media, with one user on a platform stating, "On behalf of news channels, @PreetiChoudhry of India Today has commendably apologised to #RheaChakraborty. It's high time that everyone apologises to Rhea Chakraborty, as many channels unjustly labeled her as a murderer and a part of the drug mafia."
It is worth noting that Rhea Chakraborty was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in September 2020 and subsequently spent nearly six weeks in Byculla jail.
She is currently out on bail, and the case is still pending in the Bombay High Court.
The video's viral spread led to various comments from social media users.
One user commented, "They may apologise, but some will never admit their ignorance. Nevertheless, justice may be delayed, but it will not be denied."
Another user expressed, "Absolutely right...everyone should apologise...the entire media had made this young woman's life incredibly difficult!" And another user admitted, "I too had to apologise for my actions."
