Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is one of the popular shows on Indian television which has been ruling the TRP charts for more than a decade now due to its interesting plots and amazing characters.
The popular sitcom, which revolves around the lives of Gokuldham Society’s residents, has a huge fan following in all age groups.
Not only the show, but Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’s every character is extremely popular across the country. Be it Champaklal, Jehthalal, Dayaben, Popatlal, Bhide or Tappu sena, every character is popular among the fans.

Even though some of the characters of the show like Tapu, Sonu, Sodhi over the years have been played by different actors but still some of the characters like Jethalal, Champaklal and Dayaben are synonyms to the actors that play the character and fans cannot accept anybody else in the role.
However, recently there were many reports in which it was said that actor Dilip Joshi who plays Jethalal was not the first choice for the role. Reportedly, actors Rajpal Yadav, The Kapil Sharma Show's Kiku Sharda, Yogesh Tripathi and Ali Asgar were approached for the same.
Even though they are seasoned actors and can pull up any character with ease, but to think anyone portraying Jethalal character other than Dilip Joshi seems unthinkable. His detailed caricature of the Jethalal character is spot on.
However, the reports of Dilip Joshi not being the first choice of the makers are totally false.
According to a report in Koimoi, TMKOC creator Asit Kumarr Modi had only Dilip Joshi in his eyesight for the role and had always wanted him to play a lead character.
Reportedly, Modi had offered Dilip Joshi the characters of Jethalal and Champaklal (Jethalal’s father), to him and the latter had chosen Jethalal as he thought he won’t suit Champaklal’s part.
In a throwback video, Dilip Joshi talked about how producer Asit Modi gave him a choice between the roles of Jethalal and Champaklal in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.
It would not be wrong to say without an iota of doubt that Dilip Joshi is best fitted for Jethalal and it is hard to imagine someone else portraying the character in the show.
