News Highlights

  • The Kapil Sharma Show seems to be following the same format despite announcing big changes earlier.
  • Bade Achhe Lagte Hai 2 promos indicate that the makers are following the same storyline that they chose for the first season.

The Kapil Sharma Show is back and soon Bade Achhe Lagte Hai 2 will start on television. When the hype for the return of Kapil Sharma's show started, it was touted that this time the show will be a lot different, there will be fresh faces, new presentations and many other things.

So, when finally the show returned to Sony Television last week, audience expectations were quite high. They were eager to see what was new and the breakthrough change that the comedy show was offering. Some of the changes that were also announced even before the show aired like a new set, the addition of other known comedians like Sudesh Lehri, and so on did add appeal to fans.

The live audience returned which was also a welcome change. Even though Sumona Chakravarti as a restaurant owner or Chandan Prabhakar’s new shop was a good change, it was not something that can add or rather increase the entertainment quotient of The Kapil Sharma Show. The actors continued their own style of mimicking and standup stints, but certainly, it was almost like old wine in a new bottle offering nothing new.

Bade Achhe Lagte Hai featuring Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar was one of the biggest shows on television at the start of the last decade. Now the second season of the show, which will star Nakuul Mehta and Disha Parmar in the lead, will resume soon. Looking at the promos of the second season, it seems that the makers are planning to follow the same storyline of a rich guy with a wife from a middle-class family and their struggle with other family members.

While both Ram and Sakshi were quite well-known and mature actors when they portrayed Ram and Priya, the same cannot be said of the current star cast. Importantly, the lukewarm response to Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi 3 has proved that nowadays, the Indian audience is looking for fresh and new content.

Importantly, with the Corona pandemic enhancing the significance of the OTT platforms among the audience, there is a need to come up with innovative content and both The Kapil Sharma Show and Bade Achhe Lagte Hai 2 may not be able to fulfill these expectations in the long run.
