Supernatural Horror comedy universe: After Bhediya, now its Munjya from Maddock making waves

Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon’s Bhediya was an altogether different kind of movie produced by Maddock Films’ Dinesh Vijan. Released in 2022. It was a horror comedy movie that did very well because the subject was entirely different from the regular masala movies that are commercial hits. And now the same production house has come up with Munjya which features Sharvari Wagh , Abhay Verma, and Mona Singh in important roles.

Because Munya is not being headlined by big names and superstars, the response to this supernatural horror-comedy is quite decent and it is expected that with word of mouth, the movie can become a sleeper hit just like Shrikanth and 12thFail. Munjya is a feared ghost in Marathi tradition, a character who dies young and is unmarried.

The story of this film also revolves around this Maharashtrian belief and is a novelty for the other Indians who do not know much about it. Although it is not exceptional, still Munjya is fun to watch and the VFX work is also amazing keeping in mind that the film is made on a tight budget. The character design is also fantastic and looking at the response to the first few shows, it has a full scope for a sequel.

Interestingly, earlier it was expected that Stree (also produced by Maddock) and Bhediya will have a cross-over. But the producers bowled the audience with a cameo of  Varun Dhawan in Munjya and it established one thing that Bhediya 2 is happening. More importantly, it will also create a supernatural horror comedy the first of its kind in India that will include three franchises- Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya.

With Stree 2 in the making, it would be interesting to see how the producers connect it with the other characters from the universe.
