His real name is Rajkumar Yadav

The mother of the Kai Po Che actor is a strong believer in numerology and hence it was she who changed the name of her son to Rajkummar Rao from Rajkumar Yadav. It was her idea to add that extra M in his name.

He is a North Indian

Although his surname Rao indicates he is a South Indian, the actor is a North Indian born and brought up in Gurgaon.

Worked as a copywriter in an ad agency

Before making acting his career Rajkummar Rao worked as a copywriter in an advertising agency in Delhi. But later on, he enrolled in the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune where he learned method acting.


He was an active part of theatre groups

When he was doing his college degree at Delhi University, Rao actively participated in the theatre groups of Shri Ram Centre and Kshitji Repertory. At that time the commute from Delhi to Gurgaon was not easy so Rajkummar Rao used to cycle from Gurgaon to Delhi and vice versa.
