Shah Rukh Khan, Kangana Ranaut
Shah Rukh Khan got very candid and earnest during the CNN News18 Indian of the Year Award show revealing some interesting highs and lows in life and his thought process during his journey in Bollywood. The Badshah of Bollywood who won the biggest award of the night also touched upon the times when his son Aryan Khan was arrested, when he took a break from his career, and the times of his struggle.
From almost begging Mani Ratnam to cast him in his new movie to a few strong statements, the King of Bollywood was in his usual, witty mood while he delivered his 10-minute speech.
In his speech, Shah Rukh Khan said, “I am a guy who is hopeful and tells happy stories. The heroes I play do good things, they give hope and happiness. If I play a bad guy, I make sure he suffers a lot, he dies a dog’s death, because I believe goodness begets goodness. And I believe badness deserves a kick in the backside.”
He added, “I should play honest roles that give people the courage to dream. I should keep working hard quietly with the hope that life doesn’t topple my apple cart anytime soon.”
Now many believe that it was an indirect dig taken by SRK at the recently released Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s movie Animal starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. There have been many other celebs like Javed Akhtar who have strongly objected to certain scenes and dialogues in Animal that show women as a weaker species who do not have any other purpose but to get used by men.
The same thing but in different words was said by Kangana Ranaut a few years ago when she appeared on Aamir Khan’s show which also had Deepika Padukone and Parineeti Chopra as guests.
Talking about the indecency, violence, and abuse against women that are shown in movies, the Queen said, “Mein yeh nahi kehti ki aap dark cinema mat dikhaiye. Aur jo wastavikta hai woh mat dikhaiye. Aap dikhaiye magar uske consequences dikhana bhi bahut jaruri hai. Yeh lack of creativity hai. Sabse jyadya negative character or tragic stories written by Shakespeare aap dekhiye ki unka influence is so positive ki you are scared of darkness.”

She added, “Lekin yahan pe (Bollywood) hum ladki ke character ko jiss tarah se dikhate hai ki ya ye jiss tarah ke words use kiye ja rahe hai like tandoori chicken bulaya ja raha hai.. Kabhi uska coat muh mein dal dega ya kabhi uska dupatta kheech lega, woh itrati rahegi does not matter.”
Kangana Ranaut strongly said that irrespective of how we defend our movies and India, these things are shameful and are being actually shown in Indian cinema and negatively impact the upcoming generation.
