  • But what took Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh Khan so long to collaborate?

Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki are all set to hit the theaters in December 2024. The first teaser dropped yesterday on SRK’s birthday already created a lot of excitement with many fans eagerly waiting for the second drop. It is a wait of just over a month and the fans will get to see the magic of Hirani and King Khan on the big screen.

But what took them so long to collaborate? After all, both are at the top of their game and could have made a film much earlier. Revealing the same, Rajkumar Hirani said that Shah Rukh Khan was a small-time actor in television when he first saw him shooting.

At that time Hirani was studying film editing at FTII and was very much impressed with the monologue that the Bollywood superstar delivered during the shooting of the television serial Circus. He had decided that he would take Shah Rukh as his lead when he directed a movie. But by the time Hirani passed out and became a director after a few years Shah Rukh Khan had become a big name.

Even then he approached the Badshah for Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. However SRK thought that Hirani being a newcomer would wait for him and asked him to come after 8 to 10 months. But in between the director completed the movie by collaborating with Sanjay Dutt and the movie to date is the milestone in Sanju Baba’s career.

After the two Munna Bhai movies, Rajkumar Hirani wanted Shah Rukh Khan to work with him on 3 Idiots. Even then SRK thought that he was a big superstar and Hirani would wait for him. But the director approached Aamir Khan and made two back-to-back hit movies- 3 Idiots and PK with him.

So when SRK came to know that Hirani was planning to make Dunki he just made sure that this time the collaboration happened. So all the time when the famous director cast other actors in his dream projects, in reality, he always wanted Shah Rukh Khan to play those roles.
