Raj Kapoor's Centenary celebration is big flop; sums up how Kapoor's ...

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Raj Kapoor's Centenary celebration was a big moment for the Kapoor’s to get together. But the event failed to get the response as expected from Bollywood celebs.

Raj Kapoor's Centenary Celebration

Raj Kapoor is known as the biggest Showman of Bollywood. He was one of the few yesteryear actors and directors who had a cult following abroad, especially in countries like Russia. His movies like Awara, Shree 420, and others served as an inspiration to many. Over the years he directed many big hits some of which triggered quite a few controversies for promoting nudity among his lead actresses.

Nevertheless, he continues to be one of the leading directors of Indian cinema. That is why his Centenary celebration was a big moment for the Kapoor’s to get together. From all the Kapoor's and their extended families (including Jains and Nanda’s) going to New Delhi to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the event in Mumbai to organising a full-fledged celebration in collaboration with Film Heritage Foundation and NFDC-National Film Archive of India, the Kapoor’s did everything they could to make it a big event.

Unfortunately, it did not receive the response that was expected. While many Bollywood celebrities like Vicky Kaushal, Rekha, Kartik Aaryan, and others visited the celebration venue, the evening lacked the presence of the Bachchans, the Khans, and the Roshan. Despite big stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan , and Karisma Kapoor making an impactful appearance and Alia Bhatt as the dutiful bahu organising the event, the lukewarm response from the Bollywood fraternity dimmed the hype of this celebration.

Even Alia Bhatt’s mentor and close friend Karan Johar was conspicuously absent from the event which was quite surprising. While decades earlier the Kapoor's were huge in Bollywood and their name, and presence did make a large difference, today the era is that of Khans, the Roshan, and even Amitabh Bachchan continues to have a pull despite crossing 80 years of age.

It only proves one thing although Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are A-listed stars today, Kapoor’s as a big Bollywood family is no more relevant. Rather the Khans and Bachchan’s have replaced them and today are the heavyweights in the B-town.
