Mahira Khan with Ranbir Kapoor
Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, who starred opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 'Raees,' recently opened up about the time she faced intense scrutiny after a picture with Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor went viral. In the photo, the two were seen smoking together on the streets of New York, which led to rumours and backlash, especially in Pakistan.
In an interview with BBC Asian Network, shared on YouTube a day ago, the 39-year-old recalled the impact of the viral photo on her life, believing that “This is going to end,” adding that it was a time when she thought her career was over.
“When the photos came out, there was an article called ‘The Little White Dress’ published by the BBC. It questioned my future, and I remember reading it and thinking, ‘Is my career over?’” she said.
Mahira added that she faced intense emotional pressure. “It was very tough. I wouldn’t get out of bed, I was crying daily,” she added.
Despite the challenges, Mahira Khan chose to stay resilient and made personal choices for her well-being and her child and remained silent professionally, knowing she could neither defend nor speak up much at that time when her Bollywood career had just begun.
Remarkably, the controversy died out and she even received tremendous support from both her fans and her sponsors. “All the brands called me and said they are with me,” she mentioned.
After ‘Raees’, Mahira Khan married Salim Karim in October last year and continues to focus on her career. The actress stars alongside Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed in the upcoming Netflix series 'Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo.'
