'Not impressive enough'-When DD refused to air Madhuri Dixit show in 1984

Madhuri Dixit is a big name in the world of Indian entertainment today. But just like every outsider she had her struggles as well as ups and downs. While most of her fans believed that she made her debut with Tezaab, it was Rajsri’s Abodh that gave her the first chance to become an actress in the film industry. But since the movie did not do well at the box office, she turned her attention towards the television industry which was at its peak during the 80s.

This television show was titled Paying Guest and Madhuri Dixit played the character of Neena in its first episode. She plays the role of a young girl who runs away from her home along with her lover. The two then find a home to live which is owned by a couple who just recently opened their home for paying guests.

The young lovers tell the couple that they are married and would like to stay with them as paying guests. However, Neena constantly fears that somehow the truth about them not being married will come out one day and then the older couple will throw them out. Eventually, her fear comes true and the landlord gets to know about her and her lover through the newspaper because of an advertisement given by Neena’s father.

He declares that whosoever finds his daughter will be given 50,000 as bounty. It was a 26-episode show but was refused by DD as the officials found it “not impressive enough.” Before that, she had also worked in a television serial titled Bombay Meri Hai. After Tezaab became a big hit Madhuri Dixit never looked back and reigned the film industry for more than a decade.

She returned to television 26 years later albeit as a dance reality show judge and since then has been efficiently managing both working as an actress and as a judge for different television shows.
