Mahabharat fame Nitish Bharadwaj, who played the role of Lord Krishna in BR Chopra's mega serial has announced separation from his wife, an IAS officer, after 12 years of their marriage.
Nitish, who became a household name after he portrayed the character of Lord Krishna in the mega serial, opened up about his separation from his wife during an interview with Bombay Times.
Nitish, without disclosing the reason for separation, said that he has filed for a divorce in a Family Court in Mumbai in September 2019 and currently the case is sub-judice.
"All I can say is that sometimes divorce can be more painful than death as you live with an amputated core," Nitish was quoted as saying.
Speaking further about the separation, Nitish said, "The reasons for the breakdown of a marriage can be infinite, sometimes it’s because of an uncompromising attitude or lack of compassion or it could be a result of ego and self-centred thinking."
However, Nitish stressed that it’s the children who suffer the most when a family breaks down. "So, the onus is on the parents to ensure that there’s minimum collateral damage that their children have to go through," he said.
Nitish's wife Smita Gate, who is an IAS officer, is presently living in Indore with their twin daughters.
It is pertinent to mention here that Nitish was earlier married to Monisha Patil in 1991 and the relationship ended in 2005. He has a daughter and son from Monisha. Later in 2009, he married Smita.
