Anasuya Sengupta and Omara Shetty have created a stir at the recently held Cannes International Film Festival. The two desi actresses not only wowed the onlookers on the red carpet at the French Rivera but also gained recognition for their hard-core performances in the movie The Shameless.

Anasuya Sengupta created a history

Anasuya Sengupta created history by winning the Best Actress Award, one of the most prestigious awards at the Cannes Film Festival this year. She was awarded for her role in The Shameless directed by Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov. Anasuya received this honour in the UN Certain Regard section. The Kolkata-born actress plays the character of a sex worker in The Shameless.

An English literature graduate from Jadavpur University, Anasuya earlier wanted to become a journalist but somehow ventured into movies with Madly Bangalee in which she played a supporting role. A year later in 2009, Anasuya went to Mumbai where her brother Abhishek was already working in films. From working in the art department to production designing, Anasuya performed many jobs including production designing on Netflix’s show Masaba Masaba.

When she came to know that Konstantin was looking for an actress and was in India hunting for the right person Anasuya Sengupta approached him and after a few auditions got the role. She currently lives in Goa.

Omara Shetty has previously worked with Katrina Kaif

Omara Shetty who shared the screen space with Anasuya Sengupta for The Shameless and brought the character of Devika alive has also worked earlier in a commercial Bollywood movie Phone Bhoot with Katrina Kaif , Siddhanth Chaturvedi, and Ishaan Khatter. Omara lives in Thane but has her roots stretched from Mangalore to Mumbai. Initially, she tried her hands at journalism but somehow diverted towards performing arts.

The journey of Omara was slow as she transitioned to acting after a few health complications and an unexpected but fortuitous encounter with a new style of theatre.
