Yash Raj Films (YRF) is one of the biggest banners with which almost every actor wishes to work at least once. Making a debut with YRF is certainly a dream for many even now. Back in those days, working under the direction of ace Bollywood director Yash Chopra established the careers of many actors. Chopra directed some of the iconic movies like Deewar, Kabhie Kabhie, Trishul, Darr, Dil Toh Paagal Hai and Veer-Zaara, to name a few. But did you know once Manisha Koirala turned down Yash Chopra's offer to work with Shah Rukh Khan?

Yes, though it sounds surprising, Manisha admitted that she turned down the offer out of her silly insecurities with Madhuri Dixit.

Manisha is all set to make a comeback with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's epic drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which is set to stream on Netflix from May 1. Recently, during the promotions of the series, she shared about one decision in the past that she still regrets.

Manisha said that, for having 'silly insecurities' against Madhuri Dixit, she rejected Yash Chopra's offer of Dil Toh Paagal Hai, opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

For the unversed, Manisha was offered to play the character of Nisha, which eventually landed with Karisma Kapoor. But, even before Manisha, Yash Chopra initially considered several other actresses including Urmila Matondkar, Kajol, Raveena Tandon and Juhi Chawla for the role.

During an interview with India Today, Manisha said, "One of the regrets that I have in my career is that I didn't do Yash Chopra's film. I was pitted against Madhuri ji, and I got scared. I backed out of that project."

Further, Manisha also revealed that every actor of her time wanted to work with the ace filmmaker at least once because of how he beautifully portrayed women on-screen. She said, “I went to Yash Ji's office and told him, 'Sir, it is my dream to be your heroine, solo. You are pitting me against Madhuri ji'. Somehow, better judgment of mine, I think I missed out."

Though Manisha rejected the big opportunity for her silly insecurity, she later worked with Madhuri in Lajja. While Manisha played the lead in the movie, Madhuri played a prominent role. When filmmaker Raj Santoshi offered the movie to Manisha in 2000, she didn't want to make the same mistake and immediately signed it.

Sharing the anecdote, Manisha said, “I think when you have a strong maker, and when you are confident in your own skin, the security comes. I realised I didn't want to make that mistake again because of my silly insecurities. I am so glad I did it. I am so proud of Lajja."

Undeniably, Lajja still remains a masterpiece. Both Madhuri and Manisha aced their characters.
