“They came (audience) to see your character. His last movies did not do that well at the box office. That means my Maharashtra has saved the Hindi film industry. Today, 80% credit for the success of Chhaava goes to Maharashtra. And out of this 80% 90% credit goes to Pune and the other 10% to the rest of Maharashtra. That is why Maharashtra can save the film industry,” he added.
The Vaastav: The Reality director also said that earlier it was star dominant industry but now Bollywood has learnt the hard way that stars are not earning those numbers. Many social media users agreed to this point put forth by Mahesh Manjrekar and said that biopics like Bajirao Mastani, and Tanhaji have indeed helped Bollywood get good content and success.
