Karan Johar has always shared a good bond with Kajol. Their friendship started even before the two made their respective debut in Bollywood. That is why Kajol has played the female lead in most of his directed movies. Her role as Anjali in Dharma’s big hit Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham seemed tailor-made and was loved by the audience.

However, very few people know that Karan Johar was not sure that Kajol would give her nod to do the movie at that time because she was newly married to Ajay Devgn. Recently, the famous director revealed how Kajol reacted when she first heard the script and her role in the movie.

Kajol started crying after hearing the K3G script

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham had a huge starcast. Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan were reuniting on the big screen after a long gap. Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukerji in a cameo, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kajol were all part of this one movie. Karan revealed that he approached each actor separately.

Recalling it, Karan said, “Amitji, Jayaji, Shah Rukh, Kajol, Hrithik aur Kareena. Inn sabko ek din mein maine sign kiya. Sabse pahele Amitji ke ghar gaya. Maine narrate kiya Amit uncle ko. Unhone kaha of course main kar raha hoon. Phir Shah Rukh ke ghar gaya. Shah Rukh toh as soon as I said toh unhone kahan ki, you do not even have to narrate to me. Main film kar raha hoon.”

Kajol was pregnant during the shooting of K3G

“Kyunki Kajol ki shaadi hui thi toh shayad woh ye film na kar paye. Main phir bhi officially jana chahta tha ki its okay ki agar tum nahi kar sakti. Toh meri ek appointment thi 5 baje ek actress ke saath. Lekin main Kajol ke paas filmalay studio gaya aur kaha ki its okay ki aap nahi kar sakte the. So she said muzhe kahani sunao,“ Karan added.

After Karan Johar narrated the entire story to Kajol and also told details of her character, two minutes later Kajol started crying. And then she said, “I cannot let anybody else do this film. And I will delay my decisions in life and do this film.”

Incidentally, Kajol was pregnant with her first child during the shooting of K3G and had a miscarriage. It was a big blow to her.
