Controversies seem to be never-ending for Indian Idol 12. This particular season has been repeatedly slammed for its hypocrisy, bad singing and melodrama by the judges. Importantly, this time around, even the guest judges gave some strong reactions and triggered controversies with their candid statements post their appearances on the show.

Right from the beginning, netizens have not liked the way Neha Kakkar becomes tearful in almost every episode adding a lot of melodrama to the entire show. Incidentally, the focus on poverty or another saddening part of the contestant’s life has irked the music lovers who believe that such dramatic presentations shift the attention from the music.

Even Indian Idol 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant felt that the focus was more on such stories instead of singing. Himesh Reshammiya’s reactions as judges also seemed biased and fans trolled him for always praising the singers instead of pointing out their mistakes.

Importantly, he knew Pawandeep Rajan beforehand as the singer has already won The Voice where HR was the judge. But all through this season of Indian Idol, the music composer has feigned that he did not know Pawandeep before Indian Idol 12.

Also, when pictures of a dashing and modern Sawai Bhatt and Sayli Kamble singing with legendary singer Suresh Wadkar surfaced, fans were livid. A user wrote, “#indianidol is fixed. All the participants including #SawaiBhatt are well known artists before this show. General people never make it to the Top 15. I enjoy watching it, but it breaks my heart to see how fake it is. Himesh was acting like he does not know Pawandeep, the voice winner.”

The show was also slammed for creating a fake love story between Arunita Kanjilal and Pawandeep Rajan to attract TRP. Even Aditya  Narayan, who is the host of Indian Idol 12, accepted that the story was fake. He said, “We are not denying that it’s fake but the audience enjoys it and so do we. Hum masti karte hai. They are young people and if something does happen between them, they have our wishes, and if not, it’s their lives.”

Furthermore, what ruined the credibility of the show was the candid statement from Amit Kumar. After appearing on two episodes of the show, the son of legendary singer Kishore Kumar said that he did not like the singing of the contestants but was asked to praise them by the makers. He even accepted that he was paid to appear on the show.

What followed was reactions from other well known singers like Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sonu Nigam and Abhijeet Bhattacharya- all indicating that indeed the judges were paid to be on the show which somehow has degraded the reputation of Indian Idol 12.
