Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan turns 54 today. For more than three decades the scion of the Pataudi family has been entertaining the audience on the silver screen playing different characters. From playing less important side roles to leading a franchise like Race, Saif Ali Khan has seen it all highs, lows, curves, and declines in his career.

A dream debut with YRF

Saif is the son of former Indian cricket team captain Tiger Pataudi and celebrated Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore . Naturally getting noticed and introduced to big banners and celebrities was never a big deal for him. His first movie was Parampara released in 1992 under the banner of YRF but it was sort of an underwhelming debut for the son of Sharmilajee who is considered one of the best actresses of her time.

Next came Yeh Dillagi in 1994 which also had Akshay Kumar playing the lead and Kajol as the female lead. While Saifoo as the spoilt brat was much loved it was his song “Ole Ole Ole” that became a big hit. From then on he continued to play supporting roles in movies like Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Kachche Dhaage, Dil Chahta Hai, Hum Saath Saath Hai, and Kal Ho Naa Ho.

Omkara and romantic movies established his versatility

But in between he also did Omkara which showcased the spark in him as an actor and also established for the first time his versatility and that he can play even a negative character effectively. Simultaneously came romantic movies like Hum Tum, Parineeta, Ta Ra Rum Pum, and Salaam Namastey in which he played the male lead with big Bollywood actresses like Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta.

In between 2002 to 2012 Saif Ali Khan played different types of roles including a manipulative businessman in Ek Hasina Thi, an action hero in Race and Race 2, and also did romantic comedies like Love Aaj Kal and Cocktail. Love Aaj Kal released in 2008 was the first movie released under his production banner Illuminati Films. From Kurbaan, Tashan, and Aarakshan to Rangoon, and Agent Vinod Saif Ali Khan has seen a lot of failures but has delivered the best performances in these movies.

Another big break for him came with Tanhaji wherein he played a negative role. Ever since then, he has appeared multiple times in negative roles including the role of Lankesh in Adipurush. Saif was also the first Bollywood star to venture into OTT with Sacred Games followed by Tandav that later on landed in soup.

Next, he will be seen as the lead antagonist in Jr NTR’s Devara: Part 1
