The gory scenes where the dreaded Gabbar Singh walking on the hard ravines saying to Kaalia.."Kitne Aadmi They" has a different fan base. Amjad Khan sought to fame with Sholay and he was counted in the list of A-listed antagonists of the Hindi Cine Industry even after debuting in 1973 with Hindustan Ki Kasam.
Khan, being a versatile actor, has stepped into several characters. His tale of friendship with Amitabh Bachchan in 'Yaarana' as Bishan is still cherished by movie lovers. However, he is remembered mostly for his villain character.
On the other hand, rewinding to another reel, this Gabbar had a 'Yaarana Dil' at the core.
During an old interview, when Khan was asked what friendship means to him and what is its importance in his life, he replied, "Friendship means a lot to me. I consider my friends as important as my family members."
"Can you do anything for your friend," Khan was asked.
To this, he replied, "Yes, I can do anything for a friend. If required, I give my life for my friend."
When asked, if he had ever gone overboard to help a friend, Khan said, "I have multiple times put my life at risk to help friends and I was lucky enough to get saved. But, I don't want to discuss it. If I say about it, then our friendship will end."
Further, the interviewer sought an answer from the notorious on-screen villain that if any of his friends had taken advantage of such a nature, Khan replied that many had deceived him and taken undue advantage of him, "Ask if there was any friend who didn't take the advantage. There is a difference. Such friends don't remain for a long time."
Amjad Khan, born on November 12 in 1940, worked in over 132 movies in a career spanning over 20 years. He never turned back after Sholay and went on engraving milestones throughout his career. Amjad was the first actor who was signed in as a villain for a commercial advertisement. Such was the influence of Gabbar. At the age of 51, Khan died of a heart attack in July 1992.
Well, Khan has left trails to reminisce with his iconic performances in different characters. Moreover, such an attitude in real life sheds light on the other side of the coin. It can be said, that Gabbar Singh shared a real friendship bond with his friends from the core of his heart, just like Jai and Veeru did in Sholay.
