With a career spanning decades, Mohanty starred in over 135 films across Odia, Bengali, and Hindi cinema, along with notable TV serials. He was the only Odia actor to win the Best Actor Award for three consecutive years (1982-84) and received the prestigious Jayadev Award in 1999 for his immense contribution to cinema.
