Akshay with his wife Twinkle Khanna
Khiladi Akshay Kumar, once known for his consistent box office success, has faced a significant downturn in recent years. Since 2022, the actor has had nine theatrical releases, with only one film, 'OMG 2', achieving commercial success.
Notable flops include 'Sarfira', which grossed only Rs 30 crore worldwide, and 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan', which, despite its Rs 350 crore budget, earned just Rs 102.16 crore. Other underperforming films include 'Mission Raniganj', 'Selfiee', 'Bacchhan Paandey', 'Samrat Prithviraj', 'Raksha Bandhan', and 'Ram Setu'.
This string of failures starkly contrasts Kumar's earlier career, where he delivered multiple consecutive hits. This seems to have severely affected the action star who had to sell his luxurious Mumbai apartment.
Akshay Kumar and his wife, Twinkle Khanna, recently sold their extravagant flat in Mumbai’s affluent area of Worli for an astounding sum of Rs 80 crore. The sophisticated apartment was strategically located on the 39th floor of the renowned Oberoi 360 West project.
Spanning at an expansive 6,830 square feet, the property included four dedicated parking spaces.
IndexTap indicates the apartment achieved an impressive sale price at Rs 1.17 lakh per square foot. Oberoi 360 West features two towers offering opulent 4 BHK (Bedroom-Hall-Kitchen) and 5 BHK residences. This coveted address is also home to Bollywood stars such as Shahid Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan, who own similar properties with views of the sea.
Shahid Kapoor and his wife Mira purchased their apartment in May last year, for around Rs 60 crore, featuring a swathe of 5,395 square feet.
On the professional front, Akshay Kumar recently featured in the war drama ‘Sky Force,’ reinforcing his storied career with yet another distinguished performance.
The recent box office failures have undoubtedly impacted Akshay Kumar's standing in the industry. However, this isn't the first time the actor has faced such a challenge. In the late 1990s, Kumar experienced a similar phase with 14 consecutive flops between 1997 and 1999, which he described as the lowest point in his career.
Despite the current setbacks, Kumar continues to be a prominent figure in Bollywood, with several upcoming projects in the pipeline.
