Indian cine industry’s brightest star Amitabh Bachchan has come a long way and completed over five decades. While the ‘Angry Young Man’ tasted success with Zanjeer after repeated failures, 1978’s Don maintains a classic cult status till date.
Undeniably, the craze for Amitabh Bachchan and Don won’t fade ever. There are several stories related to Don. And one such unknown tale has been revealed by BigB as he celebrated the 41st anniversary of Don’s release.

On Friday, Big B revealed that the market was sceptical and annoyed with Don. In his blog, he wrote, “Amusingly, when the film ‘DON’ was announced with me.. many in the world of Hindi cinema were quite unaware of the word don.. what they were familiar with was a product known as DAWN.. the DAWN banyan..vests... And the market was sceptical and annoyed with the makers as to why a film title should be about undergarments. Many still are.”
Don went on to become a hit movie with wonders at the box office and it also drove the movie lovers crazy.
Directed by Chandra Barot, the crime action thriller was written by writer-duo Salim-Javed. The movie also starred Zeenat Aman and Pran among others in pivotal roles. The fad for the movie drove movie lovers across the country crazy and was remade multiple times in various regional languages including Shah Rukh Khan’s Don: The Chase Begins (2006). However, Millennium Star Amitabh Bachchan undoubtedly remains the original 'Don' of the Indian cine industry.
