Akshay Kumar FINALLY steps into sacred aura of Lord Shiva in Kannappa, first look out

Akshay Kumar appeared as Lord Krishna in 2012's OMG- Oh My God!,  also starring Paresh Rawal in the lead. Later, in 2023, Akki was to essay the divine role of Lord Shiva in OMG 2, with Pankaj Tripathi in the lead. However, in accordance with the directives of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Akshay's role in OMG 2 was changed from portraying Lord Shiva to embodying the Messenger of God. Well, now, finally Akshay Kumar will be seen essaying the role of Lord Shiva in the Telugu movie Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu in the lead.

Making the big announcement, Akshay shared his first look at the movie on Monday. He is seen as Lord Shiva holding the damru (small hand drum) in one hand and the Trishul (Trident) in the other. He also has Rudraksha mala in his arms and around his neck. From the poster it seems, he is aiming to throw his trident.

Sharing the image, Akki captioned, "Stepping into the sacred aura of Mahadev for #Kannappa. Honored to bring this epic tale to life. May Lord Shiva guide us on this divine journey. Om Namah Shivaya." (sic) and hashtags #LordShivaॐ #HarHarMahadevॐ

While fans seem to be excited to see Akshay Kumar essaying the role of Lord Shiva, several others suggested other actors' name as perfect for the divine role.

A fan wrote, "What a divine look Pure Goosebumps Har Har Mahadev Akshay Sir is not acting, he is turning into Lord Shiva's avatar. He is so devoted to Shiva. Hats off you @akshaykumar Sir" (sic)

Another wrote, "I liked @akshaykumar in OMG2. Hope this movie will be just as good." (sic)

"I believe that you can actually do these types of roles. All the best," wrote another user. (sic)

Notably, the pan-India film Kannappa is the story of a warrior devotee of Lord Shiva. As per reports, the movie produced by M. Mohan Babu and directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh will feature Vishnu Manchu in the titular role. Apart from Vishnu and Akki, reportedly, several other top actors of the Indian film industry will also be seen in the movie. If the earlier reports are anything to go by, Mohanlal, Mohan Babu, Prabhas, Preity Mukundhan, Sarathkumar and Kajal Aggarwal will be seen in the movie in different roles. However, fans need to wait for an official announcement from the makers regarding the cast. The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on April 25, 2025.
