Pakistani actors were banned from working in Bollywood or for that matter in the Indian film industry after the Uri attack in 2016. Post the attack there was a lot of cross-border tension which is why the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) had decided that Pakistani artists would not be allowed to work in India and vice-versa citing patriotism and security reasons.

Now the cross-border tension has lessened a bit and Pakistani actors seem eager to work with Indian producers. Fawad Khan is now returning to Bollywood opposite Vaani Kapoor in Abir Gulal. The Kerala Story actress Adah Sharma recently opened up about Pakistani actors working in Bollywood once again.

Adah Sharma wants to work with everyone around

The actress walked the ramp for the Bombay Times Fashion Week 2025 recently. When asked about her opinion of working with Pakistani actors now that the cross-border tension has become less Adah Sharma replied, “Now for me, I would like to work with everyone around the world. Mere hisab se meri sanskruti ne muzhe sikhaya hai ki everyone is equal around the world. So mai nahi padti hoon.. even when I do movies I never ask co-star kaun hai.”

“My main thing is mai kya kar rahi hun usme. Script kya hai, story kya hai. Director kya hai of course all that matters. But co-stars kya hai I think as an actor muzhe nahi padna chahiye useme. Because when you get into that aap distract ho jate hai aapke real kam se” added Adah Sharma.

Not surprisingly, Bollywood fans are not happy with this reply from Adah Sharma who led the movie based on a controversial topic related to Hindu girls getting forcefully trapped and converted to Islam. But a few have said that there are many good actors in Pakistan and that the cross-over work culture should begin once again.
