In Bollywood, several actresses have bravely spoken out about their experiences with the casting couch, that involves sexual exploitation in exchange for career opportunities. Over the years, some top names have come forward to shed light on this dark aspect of the industry.
1. Tanushree Dutta: The ‘Aashiq Banaya Apne’ actress is often credited with igniting the #MeToo movement in India. In 2018, she publicly accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of harassing her on the sets of the 2008 film Horn OK Pleassss. She also shared that she had been subjected to a culture of sexual harassment and exploitation in the industry. Dutta revealed how she was propositioned by powerful figures in Bollywood who promised roles in exchange for sexual favors. She said, "I have seen women being taken advantage of in the industry, and I too faced the same." Her allegations sparked a wave of similar accusations from other women.
2. Kangana Ranaut: The Queen of Bollywood has been outspoken about the dark side of the film industry. She revealed that early in her career, she was often subjected to exploitation by film producers and casting directors.
