Actor Vikrant Massey’s relative among 265 dead in Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad
Actor Vikrant Massey reveals he lost his relative Clive Kunder who was the first officer of the Air India plane that crashed near Ahmedabad airport. While Sumeet Sabharwal was the Captain, Massey’s cousin Clive Kunder was the first officer.
Taking to his Instagram handle, Massey shared, “My heart breaks for the families & loved ones of the ones who lost their lives in the unimaginably tragic air crash in Ahmedabad.”
“It pains even more to know that my uncle Clifford Kunder lost his son, Clive Kunder who was the 1st operating officer operating on that fateful flight. May God give strength to you and your family uncle and to all deeply affected,” he added.
The passenger plane crashed near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad into a resident doctors’ hostel building shortly after take-off. The aircraft was piloted by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a Line Training Captain with 8200 hours of flying experience, assisted by First Officer Clive Kunder, who had logged 1100 flying hours.
Social media has since been flooded with tributes, condolences, and appeals for safety reforms in Indian aviation. Actor Vikrant Massey's post has drawn widespread attention, humanizing the tragedy for many across the country.
“This was not just a plane crash. It was the loss of hundreds of dreams mid-air,” said one user on X (formerly Twitter).
Likewise, another user shared, “India is going through a tough time with back to back tragedies hitting the country.”
“Tough times for the country as a whole, let’s all stand united,” shared another user.
As rescue operations wind down and the process of identifying victims continues, questions remain about what exactly caused the plane to fall from the sky just minutes after takeoff.
