Aamir Khan-Lokesh Kanagaraj superhero film reportedly shelved! Here’s what we know
Ever since Lokesh Kanagaraj delivered Coolie starring Rajinikanth, the filmmaker has been the subject of endless speculation. From chatter about Kaithi 2 to the much-hyped Rajinikanth-Kamal Haasan collaboration, fans have been eager to know which project the hitmaker will take up next. Among these, one highly anticipated venture- Lokesh’s Bollywood debut with Aamir Khan- has now reportedly been shelved.
According to media reports, the ambitious superhero project has been put on hold after the lukewarm response to Aamir Khan’s cameo in Coolie. In the Rajinikanth starrer, Aamir appeared as Dahaa, a sinister syndicate leader revealed in the climax. While the cameo created curiosity, it seemingly failed to create the impact needed to propel a full-fledged collaboration. Though there has been no official word, this response may have influenced the decision to shelve the project.
The film was touted as Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Hindi cinema debut- an expansive action spectacle on a global scale. Insiders even described it as the director’s 'dream project', with plans to craft a unique superhero saga. Unfortunately, with no confirmed storyline and mounting focus on Lokesh’s Tamil projects, the film now seems uncertain.
Currently, all eyes are on Lokesh’s reported Rajinikanth–Kamal Haasan project, which could reunite the two icons after 46 years. The film is rumoured to cast them as ageing gangsters, adding further intrigue to Lokesh’s career moves. Meanwhile, fans are also waiting for updates on Kaithi 2, another long-promised sequel in his Lokesh Cinematic Universe. Interestingly, reports have been abuzz about Lokesh stepping in front of the camera for his acting debut with Arun Matheswaran's movie. However, no official confirmation has been made about the same.
