Aamir Khan announces retirement age! Shares his plans after retiring as an actor
Superstar Aamir Khan, fondly dubbed as Bollywood's Mr Perfectionist, made his debut in the Hindi film industry as a child artist in 1973's hit drama 'Yaadon Ki Baaraat'. Though he appeared in other films like Madhosh and Holi, he debuted in 1988 as a lead actor with 'Qayamat se Qayamat Tak'. It's been around 36 years, and as an actor, he has worked in over 50 movies. He has earned a distinguished identity in the industry for his consistent performance and intelligent choice of scripts.
Khan heralded a new professionalism in the industry by working on only one film at a time. After cementing his place in the industry by playing a number of youthful romantic roles and winning the hearts of the audience, Khan showed his versatility by playing characters in different genres. He earned praises and numerous awards including an Academy Award nomination.
Well, after working for over three decades, finally Aamir Khan has announced his retirement age.
On August 9, Khan attended the screening of Laapata Ladies at the Supreme Court with his ex-wife and the movie's director Kiran Rao. During the screening, Aamir Khan expressed his desire to work actively until the age of 70. He expressed that no one knows what will happen after that age. However, he also stressed that he will keep promoting young talents by producing their movies.
In a video shared by ANI on X, the Laal Singh Chaddha actor can be seen sharing his plans for the future. He said that during the Covid pandemic, he had ample time to think about his career and future. He said that his career is reaching the last stage soon.
Three years ago, during the pandemic, Khan was 56. Recalling the time, he stated, "I said, 'I have another 15 years, till 70 years, I will work actively, uske baad zindagi kisne dekhi hai' (Who knows what happens after that?)"
Further, during the screening, Khan said that usually he brings one film in three years. However, he wants to give his learnings to the audience.
The Lagaan actor mentioned that he has received immense love and appreciation from the Hindi film industry, society and India. And, he believes that he wants to return that love by producing more and more films. Further, he added that he wants to bring films that he likes and that touch his heart.
Expressing his thought, Khan added that he would continue his strategy of working in one movie in three years and he won't be able to act in every film but produce it.
Talking about his plan as a producer, he said that he wants to be the 'platform' for upcoming young artists and wishes to produce 4 to 5 movies a year so that the audience could get to watch movies like Laapataa Ladies.
