The Ashoke Pandit co-produced movie features Aamir Bhashir and Pawan Malhotra in the lead and depicts how the young Muslim boys are brainwashed into believing that they will be entertained by 72 virgins if they sacrifice their life for Jihad.

The movie triggered a lot of interest on social media similar to the one created by The Kerala Story which was also reportedly based on true events of the conversion of Hindu girls into Muslims and forcing them to commit Jihad.

The Kerala Story released a few months ago was a big hit and so was The Kashmir Files based on the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits released last year.

The same was expected for 72 Hoorain but the movie failed to meet the anticipation created before its release. From triggering controversy to police complaints, this movie was highly discussed but still could not shatter the record of TKS or TKF and on its first day could only earn Rs. 3.55 crore. Thus, the movie is receiving a flat start which indicates that it may end up as a flop.

On social media too, 72 Hoorain has received mixed reactions as some social media users have appreciated the acting of the leading stars as well as the story whereas a few have slammed it for exploiting the Quarnic story.

During the screening of the movie at JNU, students chanted slogans like “Jai Shri Ram” and “Har Har Mahadev.” A student at JNU stated that whatever is wrong in Islam should come to the forefront and movies on such topics should be made. Another young girl who watched the film at the theater said that 72 Hoorain is very good.

Interestingly, leading film trade analyst Taran Adarsh’s review is very strong as he calls 72 Hoorain a “A gut-wrenching story of two terrorists/suicide bombers from across the border, it focuses on their dilemmas and inner conflicts.”
