At the 67th National Film Awards event, Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu honoured Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth with 51th Dadasaheb Phalke Award on Monday. Meanwhile, Odisha also bagged three National Awards under the regional category this year. 

Rajinikanth, a distinguished Indian actor having wide popularity across the country and better known for his unique style and personality was conferred with the most prestigious award in the field of cinema in India. 

The 70-year-old actor, fondly called Thalaiva by fans has set another milestone in his acting career spanning over 45 years. Rajinikanth who still remains undisputed in the Tamil film industry has also earned admiration from people across boundaries for portraying some iconic roles in movies in several other languages including Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. 

"I am extremely happy to receive this most prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award and my heartfelt thanks to the government. I dedicate this award to my mentor, my guru K. Balachander. This moment, I remember him with great gratitude."

On the other hand, Odisha bagged three National Awards under the regional film category this year. Filmmaker Nilamadhab Panda was honoured with the National Award for his movie 'Kalira Atita', while director Sabyasachi Mohapatra bagged the award for 'Sala Budhar Badla'. Besides, helmer Ashutosh Pattnaik's 'Srikhetra Sahi Jata' bagged the Best Arts/Cultural Film Award while Patnaik also got a National award.  

"I am extremely elated for being honoured with the National Award and I dedicate it to every Odia. With the blessings of Lord Jagannath and Samaleswari it became possible. The irony is, after noted filmmaker Satyajit Ray, I was the first to make a trilogy in Odia which includes Sala Budha, Aadim Vichar and Sala Budhar Badla. And what makes me happier is all three movies have received National awards," said an elated Mohapatra.

Apart from that, Manoj Bajpayee received the National Award under the Best Actor category for 'Bhonsle' and Ilaya Superstar and Tamil actor Dhanush received the Best Actor award for his Tamil film 'Asuran'.

Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut was honoured with the Best Actress award for her performances in the Hindi films 'Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi' and 'Panga'.
