Pushpa 2: The Rule
Allu Arjun’s magnum opus, Pushpa 2: The Rule, also starring Rashmika Mandanna, rose to new heights on its third weekend, grossing Rs 1,006.75 crores at the domestic box office and over Rs 1,459 crore including global box office.
The movie now stands at just about Rs 341 crores short of crossing the Prabhas mega-hit, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which was released in 2017 and had grossed close to Rs 1,800 cr globally. Meanwhile, it has already swept past the lifetime collections of Prabhas’ recent release, Kalki 2898 AD, which made an estimated Rs 1,100–1,200 crore at the box office.
Despite this success, Pushpa 2 still lags behind Aamir Khan's Dangal, which holds the record for the highest-grossing Indian film with Rs 2,070 crores worldwide. To surpass Dangal, Pushpa 2 needs an additional Rs 611 crores.
Although domestically, Allu Arjun still has a good chance of pacing ahead with the holiday season underway, it will face stiff competition here as well as internationally. Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King threatens to slow down the film’s international collections while Varun Dhawan-Keerthy Suresh starrer, Baby John, is set to disrupt the Indian box office on Christmas.
As of now, Pushpa 2 still needs Rs 341 crores more to surpass Prabhas and secure second place among India's highest-grossing films while to beat Dangal, it needs to mint at least twice that amount.
Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2 features Arjun in his iconic role as Pushpa Raj, with Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil in key roles. Notably, the movie, followed by immense hype and fan-following, exceeded the lifetime earnings of several big-ticket releases, including Baahubali 2, KGF Chapter 2, and Jawan, within just 15 days of its release.
