25yearsofMela: Twinkle Khanna's possible game changer that left a scar, almost forced Aamir Khan to slap her

Twinkle Khanna and Aamir Khan’s Mela completes 25 years today. Aamir and Twinkle featured for the first time in this Dharmesh Darshan movie. There was high expectations from Mela because the earlier joint venture of Dharmesh and Aamir Khan- Raja Hindustani was a big hit. While the first few shows received good response, mouth of word worked against the film and Mela was declared a flop.

Not surprisingly,Twinkle Khanna was hoping big from Mela. She had thought that it could possibly be a game changer for her and take her career to new heights. Twinkle was expecting that she might become a big star like Karisma Kapoor became after Raja Hindustani’s massive success. And that is why when Akshay Kumar asked her for marriage she said that she will marry if Mela does not work since she had no intention of marrying so early in her life.

Never in her mind did it occur to her that the movie will be a big flop and the project that she is expecting to be a game changer will instead turn out to be a big blot on her career graph. She talked about the same on Koffee with Karan.

Twinkle is known for her comic sense and shared a hilarious post related to Mela on her Instagram a few years ago. Sharing a Whatsapp message that showed the lead villain of Mela Tinu Verma aka Gurjar’s poster on the back of a truck, the Barsaat actress wrote, “Certain things, I suppose, are timeless! This popped up in my messages today and what can I say except Mela has certainly left a mark or a scar, whichever way you look at it, on me and the rest of the nation."

While Bollywood and its audience may have forgotten Mela as a useless movie in all these years, according to its director Dharmesh Darshan it was a big hit in the heartland of the country and is still loved by many. Incidentally, during the time of Mela, Twinkle was in love with Akshay Kumar and used to always think about him.

When they were shooting for Mela, Aamir found his co-star inattentive and reprimanded her for that. When Tina told him that she was thinking of Akshay Kumar instead of the movie, Aamir Khan was furious and almost slapped her on the set.
